The Giygas is a new 3-transistor silicon fuzz from Catalinbread. The pedal features a host of awesome features, including a clean blend, active mids / tilt EQ, & bass setting.

As the signal enters the pedal you’re going to hit a high impedence J-fet equipped clean-blend circuit. The clean blend lets you preserve some of the natural guitar tone while adding in the fuzz to taste. When the knob is set at zero you’ve got full dry, when set at max you get full wet.

Down below the blend knob we have the fuzz control. This of course lets you control the overall level of fuzz.

Next up the blended signal hits a detented active mids control that acts at 900Hz. In the center position there is no boost or cut. As you roll the knob up you’re going to boost that 900Hz frequency, as you dial it back you’re going to cut that 900Hz frequency. The boost or cut is plus or minus 10 decibels.

From there the signal enters a tilt style EQ also centered around 900Hz. The EQ is also detented and in the center position the response is flat. As you turn the knob to the right, all frequencies above 900Hz are boosted, and all frequencies below 900Hz are cut. As you turn the knob to the left, all frequencies below 900Hz are boosted, and all frequencies above 900Hz are cut. The maximum boost or cut on either side is again 10dB.

Finally the signal hits the volume control, aptly labeled Loud, indicative of the fact that the pedal has a lot of volume and headroom on tap. The Giygas runs on a 9VDC adapter, but it includes a charge pump circuit that runs the EQ internally at +/-9VDC for 18V of rail-to-rail headroom. Both EQ controls feature precision R2R op-amps for the lowest noise and highest headroom possible.

I also want to mention a couple really cool features found under the hood of this thing. First up you’ve got a guitar / bass selection switch. When in the guitar position, the EQ and Mids controls are both centered at 900Hz, but when you swap to the bass position the controls are recentered to 250Hz, making it much more natural for bass guitar. In addition, you also have a 40Hz active trim pot that operates identical to the mids control knob on the front face of the pedal providing up to 10db boost or cut but this time way down at 40Hz. The pedal arrives in the guitar position with the 40Hz trim pot set at minimum, or 10db of cut at 40Hz.
