Wimer Stage Road - an egregious way to the Coast

The Wimer Stage Road, an original stagecoach route from the 1880s that connected Crescent City, California to Wimer & Jacksonville, Oregon. The route was constructed by W.T. Wimer to allow mail, stagecoaches, & pack trains involving mules to connect from California to mining communities around Southern Oregon. The route traverses up & down over formidable terrain with significant elevation. Eventually the route would be replaced by the present day Redwood Highway (Highway 199). This video shows much of the route in present form, though much of it is high clearance & almost impassable w/o further maintenance. Apologies for uneven sound throughout the video.
