Cote d’Ivoire’s Defence Minister in Bouake

Cote d’Ivoire’s Defence Minister Alain-Richard Donwahi has arrived in Bouake, currently under the control of disgruntled soldiers. He will be meeting with the mutineers, who are demanding higher wages and bonuses. The unrest began on Friday and has spread to at least four other cities across the country, including the commercial capital of Abidjan. Some of the mutineers are thought to be former rebels, who were integrated into the national army. The Ivorian government is seeking to calm the situation by promising talks with the soldiers
