RIAT Diary 2022 Saturday 16th BONUS reel

Saturday 16ths edition of "bits that couldn't fit anywhere else" from the Air Tattoo 2022.

We catch a few display moments - THAT C-27 Spartan landing, The Frecces and their conservative approach to smoke machines and the Black Eagles "Korean Flag" showpiece. I have to very ashamedly admit that the first time I saw them performing this I blurted out "Are they sponsored by Pepsi Max or something" to much muttering and tuttings. Sorry, It just really looked like the logo, alright?!?!

Anyway, we also see the Battle of Britain Memorial Flights Spitfire and Hurricane duo preparing to take off and the Swiss PC-7 team taxying out too.

Much wandering around static is mixed in, getting closer to an Osprey than I've ever been before and catching up with the immenseness that is the E4-B Domesday plane. Next up is the Spanish attitude towards customer loyalty - if you spent £50 with them you could have your picture taken in the F-18. Well, THAT sure beats clubcard points, Tesco take note.

Maybe reminding us of the actual intended role of all this stuff zipping around us, and definitely a sobering occurrence was seeing the very well realized and incredibly poignant "space reserved" gap for the Ukranian Air Force - particularly their su-27 display pilot who had recently been killed in action fighting for his country. Many happy memories of his formidable display prowess were evoked and commemorated in equal measure, a moment of reflection in amongst all the pomp, noise and enthusiasm of the show going on all around. Blue Skies, Sir.
