Over 22,000 Voters Face Possible Deletion from Sikkim Electoral Roll; CEO Issues Final Appeal

Gangtok, June 22: With only six days remaining before the June 28 deadline for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Raj Yadav has warned that more than 21,928 electors are currently at risk of being deleted from Sikkim’s voter list if their Enumeration Forms (EFs) are not submitted and verified within the stipulated timeframe.

Addressing the media, Yadav informed that 99.68 per cent of Enumeration Forms have already been distributed across the state, while 84.14 per cent have been digitised and verified through Booth Level Officers (BLOs).

According to the Election Department, the majority of uncollected forms belong to electors who are reported deceased, permanently shifted, untraceable, absent, or already enrolled elsewhere. Officials fear that the number of proposed deletions may increase further before the June 28 deadline.

The CEO expressed particular concern over several urban constituencies that have recorded comparatively low verification rates. Arithang, Gangtok, Khamdong-Singtam, Namchi-Singhithang and West Pendam were identified among the constituencies with the lowest levels of EF digitisation and verification.

Calling the situation a “high-alert” matter, Yadav said BLOs have conducted extensive door-to-door visits, telephone outreach and coordination with Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies to locate electors. Despite these efforts, thousands of voters remain untraceable or have not responded to repeated requests.

He urged political parties, elected representatives and citizens to actively assist in locating voters whose forms are still pending, warning that names not verified through the revision process may not appear in the Draft Electoral Roll.

The Election Department has appealed to all electors to submit their forms by June 25 to facilitate timely verification before the final deadline. The Draft Electoral Roll will be published on July 5, after which details of both retained and proposed-deletion voters will be made public.

Yadav cautioned that failure to complete the process could result in the removal of names from the electoral roll, potentially affecting thousands of voters across the state.

“Every eligible voter must ensure that their Enumeration Form is submitted and verified before the deadline. Otherwise, their name may not appear in the Draft Electoral Roll,” the CEO said.
