Paperless Printer is Unveiled after 20 years of R&D, Next Level Tech
This factory is busy producing the first ever paperless color printer. It is a product that has been under development for 20 years.
It's composed of 74 tiny parts, and has been refined and updated multiple times to take advantage of the latest technologies. Such as wi-fi and smartphone connectivity.
The black and white prototype from many years ago was pretty impressive even in its rudimentary form. It even prove that complete page printing was possible. It was created to allow printing on any surface. From custom information to custom patterns.
The Print Brush XDR is as small as a computer mouse. It weighs 260 grams and uses 2 watts of power. It is ready to print in 5 seconds at 600 dpi. It can print directly on anything. Paper, cardboard, metal, wood, fabrics, walls, etc.
This was the original prototype from 2002. It could handle simple printouts in black and white. It was definitely ahead of its time. As it could connect to laptops, Pocket PCs and cell phones.
A similar product from 2010 was the Xyron Design Runner. Like the Print Brush, It was cordless and portable. But only handled a single color. It could print up to 5000 inches on a single ink cartridge.
The new version is capable of printing in color and connecting to smartphones via Wi-Fi. A USB cable can alternatively be used to transfer data. Plus up to four image files can be stored in the XDR's own internal flash memory, so it can later be used without a smartphone or computer.
The PrintBrush XDR will be priced at $299 when it hits store shelves in 2019.
