JANE OLIVOR Solitaire

One of the most recorded songs in the 1970's was the Neil Sedaka penned 'Solitaire'. Versions by Andy Williams, The Carpenters, Tony Christie, Petula Clark and Sedaka himself, pale by comparison to the gently haunting interpretation by the wondrous Jane Olivor. One of the most chronically under valued vocalists of the decade, Olivor recorded the song for her 1978 LP 'Stay the Night'.

With artists as diverse as Shirley Bassey, Elvis Presley and Nana Mouskouri and more recently Westlife, Sheryl Crow and Clay Aiken having also memorialised this classic ballad, my favourite is still Jane Olivor's. She imbues the song with such sensitivity & delicacy.
