Push-Up Hand Placement Explained: Narrow vs Standard vs Wide #homeworkout #pushups

With a narrow hand position, the triceps become more dominant because the elbows go through more flexion and extension.

With a standard hand position, around shoulder-width or slightly wider, the chest, front delts, and triceps all work together in a more balanced way.

With a wider hand position, around 1.5 times shoulder-width, the movement shifts more toward shoulder horizontal adduction, so the chest becomes more dominant, with more involvement from the front delts, while the triceps contribute relatively less.

But wider does not always mean better. If the hands go too wide, the range of motion becomes shorter and the stress on the front of the shoulder can increase.

So for most people, a standard to moderately wide hand position is usually the best choice for targeting the chest safely and effectively.
