The Castle Where a Tsar Was Murdered — Mikhailovsky Castle, St. Petersburg

Emperor Paul I was afraid of everyone. His own guards. His own court. Even his own family.
So he built a castle surrounded by water on all sides — accessible only by drawbridge, guarded day and night. He designed it himself, obsessed with medieval fortresses and the Knights of Malta. The walls were painted the color of a glove dropped by the woman he loved.
He moved in on February 1, 1801. On the night of March 11th, a group of officers entered his bedroom and strangled him.
He had lived in his castle for exactly 40 days.
There is one more detail. On the facade of the castle, Paul ordered an inscription carved in stone. According to legend, a holy woman counted the letters in that phrase and warned him — the number matched his age exactly. He ignored it.
No narration. No commentary. Just the rooms, the light, and an original symphony composed for this film.
Perfect for lovers of European history, dark history, and the forgotten stories of the Romanov dynasty. Hit like and subscribe for more cinematic journeys through Russia's greatest palaces.
