Bill Carter discusses his then-newly-released book _The Late Shift: Letterman, Leno, and the Network Battle for the Night_ with Tom Snyder. This video also includes Tom's introductory Act 1. Towards the end of the interview, Bill contemplates a talk show that would follow David Letterman's "Late Show" on CBS, making veiled references to Tom as his preferred host, an idea that would become reality eleven months later, with considerable unintended help from Garry Shandling's "Larry Sanders."
