Tewksbury Police BHU: Supporting People in Crisis

This is not about simply moving people along.

This is about addressing a difficult issue with compassion, public safety, and real support services. Our Behavioral Health Unit remains extremely active in Tewksbury.

In 2025 alone, the unit documented:

• 719 incident reports involving co-responses, referrals, and on-calls• 272 co-responses between clinicians and officers• 447 police report referrals• 968 follow-up contact notes involving individuals, families, hospitals, providers, and outreach attempts.

We are also working collaboratively with Walmart and local partners to redesign and refresh the area where much of this activity has been occurring, with the goal of improving safety, accessibility, and the overall experience for everyone — while continuing to prioritize outreach and support services.
