Harvesting stormwater along your street can be simple! Check out this project done by Rillito Bend neighbors in Tucson. They took advantage of a barren swale and planted native trees, shrubs, and grasses, along with simple one rock dams. The stormwater slows and sinks into the soil to irrigate plants creating shade, natural beauty, and wildlife habitat.

A swale is an earthen channel with a slight grade that conveys water slowly with the intent for some of the water to soak into the soil. The cost of this project was just the cost of buying native plants. Neighbors donated their time and skills to the project.
