On З0 October at the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre audiences can look forward to seeing the young violinist Sergey Khachatryan, whose dazzling gift residents of St Petersburg have already had the chance to see when he performed with the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra under Valery Gergiev. This autumn the violinist will be offering St Petersburg audiences a chamber programme; in the first half of the concert he will be showcasing works by Johann Sebastian Bach and in the second Sergey Khachatryan will be performing in a quartet alongside Tigran Matevosyan (violin), Armen Torosyan (viola) and Levon Arakelyan (cello). The Armenian musicians will be performing fourteen Armenian folklore miniatures edited by Komitas (transcription for string orchestra by Sergei Aslamazyan).
Our short talk with Sergey Khachatryan took place during the 2010 Stars of the White Nights festival, at which Khachatryan performed the solo in Khachaturian's Violin Concerto. It was with a question about this concerto that our talk began, and here below you may see an extract.
