Clam Digging ~ Catch & Cook FIRE ROASTED Clams THEN INVESTIGATING A BEACHED WHALE!!
We are clam digging and coastal foraging on the Oregon Coast, at one of my favorite places to go digging for clams & foraging for seafood. Catch and cook clams on the beach as we fire roast some freshly caught oregon clams!
Though I brought a couple clamming tools like the clamming gun and a small clamming rake, I am mainly going to be digging for clams by hand, we are going to be looking for Purple Varnish clams but may come across a few Cockles along the way, since they are usually found just under the surface. I give a quick how to catch clams tutorial using the clamming gun and then again for how to rake for clams, as well as showing you how to find clams and what to look for. Clam digging in oregon is best done during the spring and early summer when the weather is a bit more comfortable. Make sure to check the oregon clamming 2020 regulations and limits before you go as well as making sure ODFW has not put out any toxic level closures. Razor clams also have a season for harvesting so you want to be sure you are not razor clam digging in oregon when the season is closed.
coastal foraging or simply foraging in general is very satisfying. Nothing beats being able to get out exploring and finding, catching, and cooking your own fresh food.
It doesn't take long to find loads of clams and some other cool little creatures along the way.
Since I didn't bring the usual catch and cook tools with me, I decided to go with a very simple method of cooking clams over a fire, and I have to say They were delicious........but gritty ;)
