Russia just used the Oreshnik hypersonic missile against Kyiv for the third time, and Ukraine's Patriot air defense couldn't stop it. The Mach 10 strike was part of a 600-drone, 90-missile barrage that hit residential buildings, schools, and the Chernobyl Museum on the night of May 23 to 24, 2026.

The Oreshnik is an intermediate-range ballistic missile derived from the RS-26 Rubezh platform. It carries up to six independently targetable warheads, each capable of releasing six submunitions, which means a single missile can create up to thirty-six separate impact points.
