Getting found on YouTube: Introduction to Google search

http://www.ryanvideo.com Welcome to our Marketing Primer on how to get found on YouTube. This short presentation provides an introduction to Google search, and explains how to use metadata items to help your video get discovered by search engines.

The lesson is directed at the business owner, marketing professionals and advertising specialists. The video explains how your title, description, tags (also known as keywords) and annotations can help your video turn up in organic internet searches. These SEO items, which should be part of your social media strategy, can be used by most businesses, even if you have no programming knowledge.

The mini-lesson is taught by David Felder, the President of Ryan Video Productions, a New Jersey based video production company that produces sales and marketing videos, and consults with clients to help their programs get found on the internet.

People always ask me how to make their video go viral. Everyone wants millions of viewers, and having so many subscribers could be fun. But if your main interest is sales and marketing, fun doesn't show up on the bottom line. What's more important for you is to have the people in your target market watch it.

So, today we're going to focus on getting your video seen by your customers and prospects.

Google, and other search engines, don't actually watch your video, at least not yet. To make search engines lead people to you, you have to tell them about your video in writing.

YouTube allows you do this by entering Metadata. You can find this on the INFO & SETTINGS page for your video.

The first metadata field is the Title.

Now, when you upload a video file Youtube uses that file name as the title for your video.

So let's change the file name to a title that will better describe what a prospective viewer is searching for.

The second metadata field is for the video's description. There are two important things about this field. First, the description begins with a URL to your web site. YouTube will turn that into a clickable link .

The link is very important. Assume that a prospect just watched your video and decides they want to contact you. Shouldn't you make it easy for them?

The second thing to note is that the first few lines of the video description also contain the title and your keywords. When Google sees the same words in your title, description and tags it will rank your video higher in its search results.

That brings us to the tags. The Tags metadata field is where you put keywords that should match what your prospects are searching for. Now, don't think in terms of what's important to you; instead, think in terms of what's important to them.

Think. What would someone who needs your products or services search for?

There are other ways to help your search ranking. Google is interested in how relevant your video is to the keywords and other metadata you entered.

So, when you promote your video on social web sites, you must also remind people to share it. You do this by adding annotations asking viewers to "like" a video, or to "share this with your friends." Every public share becomes a backlink to your video from another website. And when Google sees those backlinks, it will think your content is more relevant because people are connecting to it, and it'll rank your video higher.

Clearly, shares and metadata are important, but remember - none of these ideas will work unless your video provides compelling, valuable content that people really want to watch. So, take the time and invest in a well-made, professional looking product.

Let's just sum up a few of the techniques we've discussed to increase your Google ranking:

One - Make sure you include your URL in the description.

Two - Make sure your description contains words that are also in the title.

Three - Choose tags that your prospective viewers are looking for.

And four, remind viewers to share your video.
