U.S. Press Freedom Tracker is a database of press freedom incidents in the United States — everything from arrests of journalists and the seizure of their equipment to assaults and interrogations at the U.S. border.

The Tracker, a project of Freedom of the Press Foundation, documents incidents across the country, involving national, state, and local authorities.

In 2025, the Tracker documented more than 150 assaults of journalists from Los Angeles to Chicago, New York, and cities in between. This year, we've also documented more than 30 arrests or detainments of journalists while in the course of reporting.

But we can only do this work because of supporters like you. As part of FPF, we don’t take government money — we rely on the public.
