Govt spending at highest level in 40 years while economic demand ‘running too hot’

Shadow Assistant Minister for International Development Dave Sharma details that government spending is at its highest level in 40 years, outside the pandemic.

“The Coalition proposal, we believe in cuts to the fuel excise levy, temporarily, to provide households some relief, but we were proposing to offset those with savings elsewhere in the budget,” Mr Sharma told Sky News host Chris Kenny.

“We know from the Reserve Bank that demand in the economy is running too hot; we know that’s largely a factor of government spending at the highest level in 40 years outside the pandemic.”
