The Chinese media has been hugely critical of America's treatment of the African-American community and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has not minced his words regarding the repression of human rights by the Chinese Communist Party. But as Pompeo and China's foreign policy chief Yang Jiechi meet in Hawaii overnight, the Chinese media has considerably softened its criticism of the US establishment, said Prof Chen Zhiwu, Director, Asia Global Institute, University of Hong Kong, speaking at the Institute of Chinese Studies-ThePrint Conversation on 'Outlook on the Chinese Economy in the Covid Era,' Prof Chen also pointed out that at least in the short run, the decoupling of the trade relationship between the US and China was easier said than done, while Prof Yang Yao, Director, China Centre for Economic Research, Peking University said that the Covid epidemic was bound to affect China's economic growth and its consequent rise as a power to reckon with.
