Managing decline: Liverpool, the NHS and the pandemic by Dr Michael Lambert Lancaster University

Dr Michael Lambert gives a detailed and fascinating account of public health in Liverpool from the 19th century up to the present day. The accompanying slides show charts, maps and illustrations that provide us with startling insights into the successes and failures of public health management in the Liverpool area. In some respects, success was greater in the nineteenth century than the present day. He also poses the question 'Does Brexit bring new opportunities for the NHS?' and debunks some of the claims by prominent Brexiteers. He mentions the issue of 'churning' - the constant restructuring and reorganisation of health-related bodies - and the negative effect this has.

Due to technical issues the slides weren't displayed until later in the talk, but Michael does a recap of the information.
