In Get This Bread Episode #3 🍞, we returned to the streets of Singapore, where we quizzed 2 young digital currency enthusiasts. One was confident he would outperform the other. We posed the same 5 financial literacy questions, and between both of them, they answered every question correctly. Success? Not quite. When we asked them to articulate the reasoning behind their answers, the certainty faltered.

Getting the answer right is one thing. Understanding why it is correct is another matter entirely. Surface-level understanding provides direction with capital, but crumbles when circumstances demand discernment.

Question 1:
You have $100 in a savings account. The interest rate is 2% per year. After 5 years, will you have exactly $102, more than $102 or less than $102?

Question 2:
If the interest rate on your savings is 1% per year while inflation is 2% per year, after 1 year, your purchasing power is exactly the same as today, more than today or less than today?

Question 3:
Is this statement true or false? A 15-year mortgage has higher monthly payments than a 30-year mortgage, but you pay less interest in total over the life of the loan.

Question 4:
Is this statement true or false? Buying a single company’s stock is generally safer than buying an ETF (otherwise known as an exchange-traded fund).

Question 5:
If interest rates rise, will bond prices typically rise, fall or stay the same?
