S1 Episode 6: Jessica Gerrity on Cultural Appropriation and Gatekeeping (Women Talk Budo)

Who can practise Japanese martial arts? Can one promote Kōryu without watering down the practice? What are the various faces of Gatekeeping within Kyudo? These are some questions put to Jessica Gerrity in Episode 6 of Women Talk Budo.

Jessica Gerrity @jessintokyo is a New Zealander who has been living in Japan for 21 years. A working mother to three children she trains in kyudo and naginata as well as several other Japanese martial arts.
Via her social media (Instagram: @jessintokyo) she aims to give minor or less well-known budo and traditional Japanese culture a spotlight in order to raise awareness and interest.

Jessica works in the media and entertainment industry in Japan on TV and in magazines. She also works as a writer for several martial arts-related publications and for the Saitama Prefectural government as a tourism ambassador.
