If you are interested in getting a Chase travel credit card, you might end up narrowing it down to the Chase Sapphire Preferred vs Chase Sapphire Reserve Card. The Chase Sapphire Reserve is undoubtedly full of features with an expensive yearly fee, and the Chase Sapphire Preferred credit Card offers high value while being pocket friendly.
The two versions of these credit cards have helped catapult travel rewards into an obsession. The Chase Sapphire Preferred is one of the most popular rewards credit cards even though it debuted a decade ago, and the Chase Sapphire Reserve was so in-demand that Chase ran out of metal cards in 2016.

Also the Chase Sapphire Reserve offers 50,000 points with the same spending time frame and minimum. The Chase Sapphire Preferred credit Card's sign-up bonus is the larger of the two and can be worth $1,000 when earned for Ultimate Rewards travel through Chase.

There's a key way the Chase Sapphire Reserve offsets its yearly fee.

The transfer points to loyalty programs of Chase's hotel and airline travel partners. You can use points for cash travel purchases through the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal.
If you plan to use your points in this way, the Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card offers more value. Let's suppose you have 100,000 Chase points. In the Ultimate Rewards travel portal, those would be worth almost $1,250 with the Chase Sapphire Preferred credit Card. With the Chase Sapphire Reserve, they could be worth $1,500.

The Chase Sapphire Reserve gets you: 5 points per $1 on flight bookings through Chase Ultimate Rewards excluding spending covered by a $300 annual travel credit.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred Card gets you: 2 points per $1 on all other travel purchases.
5 points per $1 on travel purchases through Chase Ultimate Rewards excluding spending covered by the $50 yearly hotel credit
The better option for earning rewards depends on your spending habits. The Chase Sapphire Reserve offers higher bonus rates overall as well as excels at travel and dining rewards.
However the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card is great for everyday spending.
