Where Eagles Dare Film Location - Austrian Village - Lofer

The film Where Eagles Dare is an action WW2 war film released in 1968. The film stars Richard Burton, Clint Eastwood and Mary Ure.

Visitors to the film location included Burton's wife Elizabeth Taylor, and Robert Shaw, who was then married to Mary Ure.

Villa Egger was used as the entrance to the bar in the film where Burton & Eastwood were both captured.

The plaque on the wall of Villa Egger tells visitors that Burton & Eastwood were joined by Elizabeth Taylor for breakfast at the Villa.

Many details of the Villa such as the door, fixtures and seating outside remain the same today as they were in the film.

The valley in which Lofer sits has been a major trade route dating back to the 15th century.

The Saalach river running through the town is famous for white water kayaking in the summer months.

If you watch the film, you will recognise many of the camera angles from the scenes filmed here on location in 1968.
