Belarus protests persist despite crackdown

Protesters have ignored warnings, turning out in force to keep up the pressure on Belarus's president to step down.
Three weeks after disputed elections, another mass rally has taken place despite the government saying protests are illegal.
Police have detained at least 125 people in the capital, Minsk. Some of the earlier arrests were in and around Independence Square.
Reports from the scene say security forces cordoned off the area and pushed back peaceful demonstrators.
President Alexander Lukashenka's rival, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, says it shows that the regime is morally bankrupt. She remains in Lithuania where she fled to after the election.
