What are Genital Warts?
Genital Warts or (Anogenital Warts) are a sexually transmitted disease (STD) that is caused by a virus called human papillomavirus (HPV). They are small lumps that develop around the genital area and anus.

How do you catch Genital Warts?
The virus is passed on by sexual contact, or with close skin-to-skin contact. This means that you do not necessarily need to have penetrative sex to pass on Genital Warts. Sharing sex toys may also pass on infection and rarely, it may be passed on from hand warts.

Symptoms of Genital Warts
1. Warts on the genitals.
There may be one or many of them. Sometimes individual warts join together to form one large warty area. Some look like small, skin-coloured lumps on the skin (like common warts people have on their hands or feet). Others may be pink, red, grey or white.
They may feel soft or hard.
2. Warts may feel sore, especially if they occur around the anus.
3. Warts can bleed or cause pain on intercourse.

What are the treatments for Genital Warts?
1. No treatment
2. Chemical Treatments - Aldara (Imiquimod), Condyline (Podophylotoxin)
3. Physical Treatments - Liquid Nitrogen, Surgical excision, Laser, Electrocautery

Can you prevent Genital Warts?
Yes! A vaccine called Gardisil protects people from the virus (Human Papillomavirus) that causes Genital Warts.
