Steaming Along: The Midlands
The Midlands
We start our tour around the Preserved Railways of the Midlands at the Foxfield Railway, starting at Foxfield Colliery looking at a selection of industrial locomotives powering up the steeply graded Foxfield Bank.
The Churnet Valley Railway is only a short distance from the Foxfield Railway. Running from Kingsley & Froghall to Cheddleton via Consall and Leek Brook Junction, with trains of certain days run further than Leek Brook down the Cauldon Lowe Branch to Ipstones Loop. For much of its journey the railway runs alongside the Caldon Canal. We see a host of locomotives in action including home based S160s and visiting locomotives GWR Dinmore Manor and LNWR Super D 49395.
Our next port of call is the Midland Railway Butterley, with Standard 5MT 73129 in action. While Hammersmith is the main station and headquarters of the railway, Swanwick Junction is the centre point and destination of the journey. Here is a large display hall, narrow gauge railway (Golden Valley Light Railway) and West Shed (home of the Princess Royal Locomotive Trust).
We pay brief visits to the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway where we see the GCR's 3F Jinty 47406, while at Peak Rail we see Hunslet Austerity "Lord Phil', before seeing a feast of LMS Power at Barrow Hill Roundhouse.
Our final standard gauge visit is to the Nene Valley Railway running between Wansford and Peterborough. Next to Peterborough station is the Railword Museum.
Finally we visit ZSL Whipsnade and the Great Whipsnade Railway.
Steaming Along
With my move to a 4K camera in 2018, this seemed like the perfect opportunity for a series of compilation videos with my archived pre 4K material. Steaming Along is a series of compilation videos looking at the key locations and locomotives on some of Britain's best preserved railways.
This latest episode of series 2 of Steaming Along, continuing a look before I moved 4K. This series will have episodes focused on Main Line Steam, Capital Steam, the Lake District, the North East, the South and the Great Little Trains of Wales.
