Coronavirus Update: Positive Vaccine News, Carmakers Reopen
Moderna announced that phase one of the human trials of their vaccine had positive results.
All eight initial participants who received two doses of the vaccine reached or exceeded the neutralizing antibody levels seen in patients who recovered from COVID-19.
The US Food and Drug Administration have already cleared the company to begin phase two of its testing.
This was welcomed news to the stock market which soared after the opening bell.
The Dow was up 800 points, the S&P jumped 3 percent and the Nasdaq went up 2.5 percent.
Ford, General Motors and Fiat Chrysler are gradually reopening today after being closed for nearly two months.
Portions of their staff will head back to work with safety measures in place, including having their temperature taken, and being required to wear masks, gloves and protective eyewear.
The auto industry has lost billions of dollars in sales due to shutdowns.
Speaking to the World Health Assembly over video stream, Chinese President Xi Jinping acquiesced to a probe by the W.H.O. into the origin and spread of COVID-19.
Xi, who previously opposed the investigation, also pledged $2 billion of financial support to developing countries.
