Segmental Box Girder Launching

Segmental box girder launching refers to the construction of bridge superstructures using box-shaped segments, typically made of precast or cast-in-situ concrete. The segments are assembled sequentially using methods such as balanced cantilever, incremental launching, or span-by-span erection. In the incremental launching method, segments are fabricated behind the abutment and pushed or pulled into position along the alignment, minimizing disruption to traffic and reducing ground-level work.

Balanced cantilever and span-by-span techniques use lifting equipment or launching gantries to position the precast segments over piers, with post-tensioning applied to connect and strengthen them.

This approach enables rapid, high-quality bridge construction, especially over inaccessible or busy sites, and is widely used in modern highway and railway projects.
