Learning English Podcast Friday September 22 2023

On today's podcast, Dan Novak and Ashley Thompson host the show and Dan tells listeners what they will hear. Greg Stachel reports on a new U.S. policy from the administration of President Joe Biden that will let Venezuelans who entered the country without permission stay and work for 18 months without being deported. There are at least 470,000 such Venezuelans in the U.S.
Then Andrew Smith has a VOA story about the future of office work. Then Caty Weaver tells a story about how the United Nations recognized what it called a torture center in Argentina as a World Heritage Site. After that, Anna Mateo has a story about efforts in Saudi Arabia to make fresh water using Solar energy. The goal is to make enough water for many more people in the kingdom.
Then, John Reynolds talks about the grammar of polite requests in offering coffee or tea. That is followed by a discussion on how to respond to such requests between John and Dan. Then Dan and Ashley sign off.
