To remove reference barcode and replace this with item number barcodes.

Current process at the moment:

Item numbers from customer service and purchasing numbers are entered with quantity. In the warehouse however, for every receipt of we made for the part number, reference number or barcodes are being created with quantity to either to be picked or put away in a location.

My idea is to remove the refence all together and replace this with the item number instead to be in line with our customer service and purchasing department in turn to our client and suppliers where they are only relying on part number identification. Reference for us then is not required.

Power of 3s to the audience to help picture the idea and more focus of the idea being presented:
1) Imagine receipting purchase order labels as item barcodes instead of references

2) Imagine putting away items with no references

3) Imagine picking parts in the rack with no references.

This way when we are putting away or picking parts, the only information we have are part number on a location and the number of quantity required.

I have already spoken to the IT departments and QAD experts, our warehouse management system, references can be turned off and switch can be done with part numbers as barcodes.

This idea, currently we have 6000 plus references with only 3,500 parts,

More than 2 thirds or extra 2,000+ references in the warehouse that we do not need to scan anymore.
