Highguard is GONE : (The Fastest Live Service Death in History?)
The lights just went out. As of 7:50 AM this morning, the official website for Highguard went dark, leaving a "Site Unavailable" message in its wake. Less than 70 days after its big reveal at the Game Awards, it looks like the raid-shooter experiment is officially over.
How did we get here? From a 90,000 player peak on Steam to literally zero momentum in less than a month. Highguard was supposed to be the independent "Apex killer" from the veterans at Wildlight Entertainment, but instead, it’s become a case study in why the "Modern Audience" strategy is a death sentence for developers.
In this video, we’re breaking down the timeline of the disaster: from the "Generic" reception at the Game Awards to the recent layoffs and the sudden disappearance of the game’s digital footprint.
To the 3,000 people still playing this and ready to hit the downvote button: I get it. You found something you liked. But the math doesn't lie. When you build a game for a "modern audience" that doesn't exist, you gamble the livelihoods of 100+ developers on a dream that was dead on arrival. This is what happens when corporate roadmaps replace actual game design.
