Pakistan JF-17 Crashes After Claiming Victory Over India During Operation Sindoor

A Pakistan Air Force JF-17 Thunder fighter jet has crashed near the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex in Kamra during a routine training mission. Both pilots ejected but reportedly sustained serious injuries. No civilian casualties were reported. This is said to be the seventh crash involving Chinese-origin fighter aircraft operated by Pakistan in recent years, raising serious questions about the reliability of Chinese-built defence platforms that now form the backbone of Pakistan's air force.

The timing could not be more embarrassing. Just weeks after Operation Sindoor in May 2025 when India struck terror camps deep inside Pakistan the PAF publicly claimed its JF-17 Thunder had taken out India's S-400 missile system. Pakistani officials celebrated. The internet cheered. But the reality was starkly different. India's S-400 reportedly downed a PAF JF-17 Thunder in what the Indian Air Force Chief called the longest-ever surface-to-air kill in history. A Swiss military think tank confirmed that the Pakistan Air Force had lost its ability to sustain aerial operations by the conflict's final day, May 10, 2025.

The JF-17, jointly built by Pakistan's PAC and China's Chengdu Aircraft Corporation, has faced recurring technical issues since its induction in 2007 from engine failures to radar unreliability. Notably, the Chinese Air Force itself never inducted the jet.
