How to promote social cohesion with Betsy Levy Paluck, Greg Power, Simon Ruda and Antonio Silva

Humans are tribal and treat those similar to themselves more favourably, as well as trusting them and empathising with them more. This evolved tendency can be at odds with a globalised world and the associated migratory flows, which place greater challenges on the cohesion of societies, as the perception of threat associated with these rapid demographic and cultural changes can lead to increasing distrust and prejudice. In this session we will discuss novel approaches to address these biases to promote integration and cohesion based on highlighting the things we have in common, creating overlapping identities and increasing empathy, in both settled and migrant populations.
