Verbal Communication refers to the exchange of ideas, views, messages, or information verbally through words and sound.

Verbal Communication includes both spoken and written information and is often expressed in the form of conversation, discussion, or a presentation

Pre-requisites of Verbal Communication

- The speech should be audible and the tone clear, concise, and distinct
- The message must be perceived in the correct way
- The sender must be able to speak well
- The listening skills of the receiver should be exemplary

Importance of Verbal Communication

Difference between Verbal and Non-Verbal Communication

Verbal Communication is a direct technique whereas Non-Verbal Communication is an indirect technique

Words, language, and speech is used to convey the information in verbal communication whereas non-verbal communication requires the use of gestures, signs, symbols, eye contact, and body language

Verbal Communication can be formal or informal whereas Non-verbal Communication is informal

Verbal Communication is recorded and is highly impactful whereas in Non-verbal Communication the real feelings of a person are conveyed

Verbal Communication is conveyed through oral or written means whereas Non-verbal Communication is conveyed through facial expressions, body language, signals, and posture

In Verbal Communication the information is exact whereas in Non-verbal Communication more information is needed to reach the conclusion

Verbal Communication is precise and reasonable whereas Non-verbal Communication can be complicated and confusing

Tips to Improve Verbal Communication

- Be a good listener to understand the message that is being conveyed.

- Focus on the facial expression, body language, tone, posture, and gestures as it will make the information precise and clear.

- Consider the perspective of others for a correct and apt response.

- Take the help of non-verbal signs to reinforce your words.

- Ask insightful questions to clarify doubts and show your full participation in the communication.
