LONDON MOZART PLAYERS: Mozart – Concerto in C for Flute and Harp, K299

Surely one of the best loved of Mozart’s concerto, his Concerto for Flute and Harp is lucid and endearing from the plain fanfare of the opening to the poised gavotte of the finale, aptly framed in the French taste. Between these, the exquisite slow movement is a gracious Andantino in triple time, allowing the two soloists to enjoy a leisured colloquy. The orchestration is simple: two oboes and two horns with strings (and often divided violas, especially in the Andantino) with hardly a hint of virtuosity in the style. Mozart professed to dislike both these instruments, but he produced a work that has remained hugely popular ever since its first performance.

This concert performance by the London Mozart Players was recorded at the church of St Martin in the Fields, London, on 30th August 2018.
Leader: Simon Blendis. Soloists: Emma Halnan (flute) and Anne Denholm (harp)
