How to Re-Shoe a Tripod

Making a new quick shoe for a thrift store tripod.

The tripod is a Stitz V150BX/Q.

The process is fairly simple, and should be relative to just about any tripod that has a quick shoe mount. The only difference between tripods would be the size of the shoe.

I used a basic 45 degree dovetail, which should be sufficient for most mounts.

Power tools are not required for this, though can speed up the process (or in the case of the bandsaw I was using, slow down the process).

It's possible to make the shoe from just about any durable material: wood, plastics, aluminum, steel etc. The only limits would be what raw material and tooling is available.

I would, however, advise against using materials such as kryptonite, diamond, or uranium. These materials may be exceedingly difficult or dangerous to work with, and the end product may cost more than the tripod itself is worth.
