59. Kant's Wall

With the radical separation of the 'noumenal' from the 'phenomenal,' Kant introduced a philosophical idea that has dominated western thought since his time. With the loss of confidence in the metaphysical ideas of God, self, and essences, theology devolved to religion, freedom to deterministic psychology, and laws of nature to positivism.
