'Drums of war': Home affairs secretary warns of impending military combat
Australia’s home affairs secretary has warned “drums of war” are beating as Australian tensions with China continue to deepen.
In an Anzac Day message to staff Michael Pezzullo said the nation must strive to reduce the likelihood of war and warned Australia must prepare to send of troops to fight.
Last week China labelled the federal government’s decision to scrap Victoria’s controversial Belt and Road deal with the Asian superpower and “unreasonable” and “provocative” move.
Mr Pezzullo said in an article for The Australian “let us continue to search unceasingly for the chance for peace while bracing again, yet again, for the curse of war”.
