Organisms: Single-Celled (4/4) #viral #science #clarity #chemistry #microscope #facts #biology

Stentor has tiny hair-like structures around its cell that beat and create a water current, drawing food into its cell-mouth, which is just a specialized compartment of the cell. As the rotifer gets swallowed, it’s wrapped into a bubble-like structure and forms a vacuole inside the Stentor’s cell. That vacuole quickly becomes almost as acidic as our stomach and melts down whatever is inside.
