Rocket Science - The Importance of CG & CP. This video goes into a bit more depth about why knowing your CG & CP are important. All bodies act around their Center of Gravity CG, but the air or fluid, acts on the Center of Pressure CP. In stable flight, the CP always trails the CG, with the CP providing a righting torque around the CG to keep the craft pointing in the correct direction. We calculate the CG & CP to ensure our rocket will be stable before we fly it.
