How does an internal combustion engine work?

Engines are machines that convert chemical energy into mechanical work. When you need something heavy to be moved around, an engine might come in quite handy.

In any case, not all motors are similar, and each motor has its own way to work. There are three main types of engines: Thermal engines, electrical engines, and physical engines. Thermal engines can be subcategorized into three: Internal Combustion engines (IC engines), External Combustion engines (EC engines), Reacion engines.

Each engine type is fascinating but our focus today is on internal combustion engines which also have two types.

An internal combustion motor, also known as an ICE, is a heat engine. It produces energy from fuel by burning it in a specialized area known as the combustion chamber. You can find these engines in almost every vehicle.

From cars to lawnmowers and helicopters to ships, they power numerous vehicles around the world. What makes them so popular is the efficiency of the internal combustion engine. The types of engines are the spark ignition gasoline engine and the compression ignition diesel engine.

Engines are quite vital for performing tasks that humans cannot do with their muscles. From transportation to construction, engines provide energy vital for modern society, and among different types of engines, internal combustion engines are particularly important.
