High Voltage Lab Exp#15: Power Frequency Flashover Voltage Test on Pin Insulator - Dr. T. G. Arora

Exp#15: “Power Frequency Dry & Wet Flashover Voltage Test on Pin Insulator” by Dr. T. G. Arora, Electrical Engineering Department, Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering and Management, Nagpur (India).
Over-voltages occur frequently in the power system doe to lightning discharge and switching operations. The power system insulators must sustain the lightning as well as switching over-voltages. Before putting insulators into service, certain tests are performed on them. These tests are performed with power frequency as well as impulse voltages. This experiment demonstrates the testing of pin type insulator at power frequency voltage. Power frequency flashover voltage of a pin type insulator is obtained under dry and wet condition.

NOTE: This video is not recorded by professional videographer. The objective of this video is to demonstrate the experiment to the students studying High Voltage Engineering course as they are not able to attend the lab due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Next Video: Impulse Generator.
