U.A.E. leaving OPEC to focus on ‘national interests’

The United Arab Emirates says it’s leaving the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and OPEC+, dealing a heavy blow to the oil producers and their de facto leader, Saudi Arabia. The move, which will take effect on May 1, is likely to weaken the group at a time when the oil industry globally is already under threat due to impacts from the U.S.-Israel war with Iran.
