The Pace Report: "Swiftly We Swing Along" The Veronica Swift Interview

Welcome to another edition of The Pace Report featuring Mack Avenue Records jazz vocalist, Veronica Swift.

Veronica recently performed at the Saturday weekend Jazz Jam Session hosted by trumpeter/vocalist Benny Benack III at Terremoto Coffee Room in Chelsea. The critically-acclaimed vocalist placed second in the prestigious Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition for Vocalist but has built a following on the music scene ever since she was a little girl. She grew up in the musical household as her mother is vocalist Stephanie Nakasian who sang with the legendary John Hendricks and her father was pianist Hod O'Brion.

She learned at an early age how to sing and perform in front of an audience and was destined to perform as both her passion and dream. At nine Veronica recorded her first album, "Veronica's House of Jazz." At 13 she recorded her second release "It's Great To Be Alive."

During the last decade she's recorded and toured with the likes of trumpeters Chris Botti and Wynton Marsalis and pianist Benny Green.

Her upcoming Mack Avenue Records release "This Bitter Earth" showcases more of her love to dive and interpret the American Songbook paving a new wave of vocalists in her generation.

I sat down with Veronica to discuss her role as a jazz vocalist, her main influences, as well as reflect on her education and performances.
