Does Your Prostate Size Matter? | Mark Moyad, MD MPH & Mark Scholz, MD at the PCRI Conference 2019

Mark Scholz, MD, and Mark Moyad, MD, MPH, discuss prostate size, how it affects PSA, and the significance of PSA density.

0:10 Many people try to overinterpret the PSA test; however, it is a non-specific test that provides limited information. To get the most out of the PSA test, one must know their prostate size to calculate the expected PSA and PSA density (that is to say, the PSA in relationship to the prostate size). Learn more about PSA density here: https://bit.ly/2RdNQEs

1:19 If men have larger than average prostates and they do not know their prostate size, they are liable to unnecessary biopsies if a physician is looking at the raw PSA instead of calculating the PSA density based on a man's size.

2:04 Prostate enlargement is oftentimes the result of other health issues (weight gain, elevated blood sugar, elevated blood pressure). Diet and exercise should be the first consideration for prostate enlargement as well as a myriad of other health issues.
