Internal Resistance Made EASY — EMF vs Terminal Voltage Explained for A Levels Physics students

What’s the exact difference between EMF(electromotive force) and terminal potential difference? Surprisingly, around half of the students fail to distinguish between them properly.

This short explains why EMF is equal to terminal pd when no current is flowing or when we assume no internal resistance, and why terminal PD drops when current flows, and how internal resistance creates “lost volts” using EMF = terminal pd + lost volts.

Perfect for CIE A Level Physics 9702 revision — especially MCQs and electrical circuits questions.
