The Great Fire of London #greatfireoflondon #thegreatfireoflondon #Londonfire1666
This video is about one of the worst tragedies that had happened in London in the year 1666, the Great fire of London.
Thomas Farriner a baker in Pudding Lane in the city of London had forgotten to put off the fire on 2nd September which caused the great fire in London. The fire spread rapidly because the houses were built of wood and straw. The houses were also built very close to each other causing the fire to spread fast. The fire lasted for four days from 2nd September to 5th September. The fire burnt lots of buildings. Around 13000 houses, 87 churches and even St. Paul’s Cathedral. More than hundred thousand people were homeless. Finally King Charles II ordered the houses to be pulled down.
The very last fire was extinguished early in the morning of September 6th. This was led by famous British diarist Samuel Pepys. The whole city was rebuilt. The houses were built with bricks instead of wood. Sir Christopher Wren a famous architect designed the new St. Paul’s Cathedral.
He also designed a monument to remember the Great Fire of London, which still stands today. It is 61m high and it took around 6 years to build this monument.
This is an animated video attempting to highlight key facts that happened during the great fire of London.
