Filmmaker Christopher Nupen about the film:
"Why do so many people in so many parts of the world remember Jacqueline du Pré with so much affection and what is it about her that so catches the public imagination?
Nobody knows all the answers to those questions, but, for many of us, they include the strange conviction that, in a way which we cannot define, something of Jacqueline du Pré belongs to us personally. That is one of the mags of the great performers, an ability so to penetrate the heart and mind as to leave the impression that something personal and permanent remains. Certainly Jacqueline du Pré had ways of touching us that are given to very few and, in sharp contrast to the fate of most performing artists, her stature has continued to rise steadily since her death in 1987. That is very, very rare.
"Who Was Jacqueline du Pré?" consists 100% of material that had never before been seen in public when the film was made."
