COVID-19: Reflections on 2020 w/ Dr. Nicholas Christakis

From economics to epidemiology to psychology, COVID-19 has profoundly altered our society and will likely continue to do so well into the new year. 2020 has challenged us both as decision-makers and as human beings, forcing a collective reconsideration of what it means to live in a time of plague. But history and science can both be our guides if we allow them to be, argues Nicholas A. Christakis, Sterling Professor of Social and Natural Science at Yale University, who has studied the progression of the novel coronavirus across a range of disciplines.

In our final COVID-19 webinar of the year, Dr. Christakis shared insights from his new book Apollo's Arrow: The Profound and Enduring Impact of Coronavirus on the Way We Live including the history of pandemics dating back centuries; the tension between civil liberties and public health; the emotional and social toll of the pandemic; and the general question of how plagues eventually come to an end.

The free public webinar is a collaboration of the Colorado School of Public Health, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, and the Institute for Science & Policy.

About the Institute for Science & Policy:
We are a catalyzing force for better policy making by encouraging Americans to talk to each other again, and to solve problems through civil dialogue and scientific thinking. We envision a future in which all people honor our common humanity, understand the reality of science, and agree that science must be considered in creating public policy. A project of the Denver Museum of Nature & Science.
